Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, 7:30 p.m. at Werkbund Forum, Weckmarkt 5, Frankfurt
Dear friends* of performance art,
We cordially invite you to the opening of the IMPLANTIEREN2020 Performance Festival by ID_Frankfurt e. V. on Thursday, August 20, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Werkbund Forum, Weckmarkt 5 in Frankfurt and to the events in Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Offenbach from August 20 – September 6, 2020.
The opening will take place in a special format, responding to the question of how to organize a coming together in public space beyond a gathering. Instead of opening speeches and greetings, held from a central speaker position, we are designing a participatory audio course that will enable all visitors to experience together a very individual opening of IMPLANTIEREN2020. From more than 20 audio contributions by actors, artists, partners and sponsors of the festival, visitors will be able to put together their own individual course. Through this special format, we want to make different perspectives and voices around the festival audible and at the same time provide a first preview of the following festival days.
Technical requirement: a smartphone capable of scanning QR codes is needed. In addition, we ask that you bring your own headphones.
Below you will find the program at a glance (as of 06.08.2020) as well as further information about the artistic works, the residencies, the discourse and mediation program as well as the festival centers, the framework program as well as about IMPLANTIEREN and ID_Frankfurt e. V..
We look forward to seeing you!
With best regards,
Your IMPLANTIER2020 team
The performance festival IMPLANTIEREN2020 by ID_Frankfurt e. V. invites you to an encounter with artistic works of the independent scene in urban space for three weekends from August 20 to September 6, 2020 in Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Offenbach.
For years, the independent scene in Frankfurt and the region has a remarkable density and competence in the fields of performance, dance and theater, which IMPLANTIEREN2020 now for the fourth time bundles, networks and presents in urban space. As a production platform, the festival thus enables new perspectives for regional artists* beyond the established institutions.
In addition to nine artistic works, most of which were produced especially for the festival, discursive formats and a mediation program are also being developed for the upcoming festival edition. These also take this year’s focus of the public, as well as the shared space into account. For the first time, IMPLANTIEREN2020 will also provide two research residencies for artists*, inviting them to further develop their site-specific projects within the festival.
At the same time, the festival wants to be a place for real encounters, to enable spaces of coming together and exchange, especially in the current situation. Because at the moment it seems more than ever necessary to think about being together in public space: What spaces can be used communally and how, what forms can togetherness take spatially? Through the appropriation and co-design of public space with the help of artistic strategies, a focus will also be placed on the concept of the commons, understood here as a practice from the I to the We, which attempts to rethink social living and working together.
This becomes particularly visible in the festival centers, which are created in close cooperation with local initiatives. With them IMPLANTIEREN2020 occupies three completely different locations in the three festival cities. On the weekends in August and September 2020, the Weckmarkt at the Werkbund Forum in Frankfurt (20.-23.08.2020), the Osthang in Darmstadt (28.-30.08.2020) as well as the main station in Offenbach (04.-06.09.2020) will be marked as festival centers. Set up as places where various forms of gathering are possible, they show how public space can be used together. The starting point is the three locations in all their diversity. The main station in Offenbach, for example, is an infrastructure in the middle of the city that has hardly been used for several years. As part of the festival, it will be transformed into a place with diverse forms of use together with the initiative Hauptbahnhof OF. In Darmstadt, the festival center will be hosted at the Osthang, a self-managed cultural center, where it is already practically exemplified how a common design of spaces can look like. In Frankfurt, it will stop at the Weckmarkt in front of the premises of the Werkbund, which for over 150 years has made it its business to shape society together and to think ahead. Here, the festival center is located not far from the northern bank of the Main, a section of road currently only temporarily closed to vehicular traffic, which invites people to try out other possible forms of use and to shape public space communally.
So IMPLANTIEREN2020, in cooperation with numerous institutions and initiatives of artists*, scientists*, activists* and residents* in the three cities, is testing different forms of artistic space appropriation and space design.
Participating artists*: Philip Albus & Ana Berkenhoff, Yoga Church of Evil, Frida Laux, PARA, ScriptedReality, Ülkü Süngün, Hannah Schassner & Mirrianne Mahn (theaterperipherie), zaungäste, 431art – Haike Rausch & Torsten Grosch
